APIAS ambassador training promotes age-friendly city

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) organised the Ambassador Training Certificate Presentation Ceremony of “Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project” for Tuen Mun and Yuen Long districts on 16 August.  Around 200 seniors from 19 non-governmental organisations (NGO) were presented with certificates in recognition of their efforts to acquire knowledge of age-friendly city concepts.

At the presentation ceremony, Dr Vincent Wen Zhuoyi, Research Assistant Professor of APIAS acknowledged every NGO’s work and support in promoting the concept of age-friendly city in the community and facilitating the implementation of the ambassadors’ training.  Mr Timothy Tam, Project Manager of The Hong Kong Jockey Club encouraged ambassadors to continue spreading the concept of age-friendly in the community.

Among the ambassadors were Yuen Long representative Mr Chan and Tuen Mun representatives Ms Keung and Ms Tao, who shared their experiences and reflections.  Mr Chan keeps participating in the promotion of age-friendly city within his network after he became an ambassador.  Ms Keung and Ms Tao, who have been engaging in community works for years, shared how the age-friendly city concept can be integrated into their work and daily life.

In the afternoon session, all participants attended a learning activity to design everyday life environment for the elderly.  They showed enthusiasm and expressed their gratitude for the chance to know more about the age-friendly city concept and be a part of the team to enhance seniors’ well-being.

“Jockey Club Age-friendly City” project has adopted a bottom-up and district-based approach to build momentum in districts to develop an age-friendly community, undertake sustainable improvement for the well-being of senior citizens, as well as encouraging community participation in establishing an age-friendly Hong Kong.
