Lingnan University organises Naming Ceremony of Mr and Mrs Tung Choi Hing Study Room

Lingnan University organised the Naming Ceremony of Mr and Mrs Tung Choi Hing Study Room today (8 February) in appreciation of the support of Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho to the University.
With the generous donation of Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho to Lingnan University, the “Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho First Generation University Education Fund” is established to support Lingnan students with financial needs who are the first generation in their families receiving university education. The students will have more opportunities to participate in student exchange programmes, internship programme, Service-Learning programmes and hostel life.
Mr and Mrs Tung Choi Hing Study Room is a 24-hour study room located at the University’s Simon and Eleanor Kwok Building. Officiating guests of the naming ceremony include Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho, Mr Simon Ip Shing-hing, Deputy Chairman of the Council and Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University.
In his welcoming address, Mr Simon Ip Shing-hing, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Lingnan University thanked Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho for their generous donation to support the First Generation University Education Fund. “The University strives to achieve its goal of providing the best whole-person education to young people, allowing them to serve the society and the world. The support of Mr and Mrs Tung not only is a splendor to our golden jubilee celebration, but also sharpens our momentum in nurturing all-round students,” said Mr Ip.
Mrs Christy Tung said in her address that Lingnan University’s motto is “Education for Service”, which coincides with her and Mr Tung Chung Ho’s philosophy in education service. “Through the establishment of the ‘Mr and Mrs Tung Chung Ho First Generation University Education Fund’, we hope students can receive all-round learning to nurture their outstanding talent, and contribute to the society,” said Mrs Tung.
In his note of thanks, President Leonard K Cheng pointed out that with Mr and Mrs Tung’s generous donation, “more Lingnan students who are the first generation in their families to receive a university education and have financial needs will be able to enjoy hostel life and participate in student exchange programmes, internship programmes, Service-Learning programmes. These extra-curricular and co-curricular programmes and activities are essential in nurturing all-round individuals to succeed in a rapidly-changing world.”
