Lingnan University and National Chengchi University co-launch Dual Doctoral Degree in Policy Studies and host international symposium
Lingnan University (LU) and National Chengchi University (NCCU) will launch a Dual Doctoral Degree Programme this September, leveraging outstanding academics and researchers from the two leading universities in Asia to provide research training for students with international and comparative perspectives. Upon graduation, students will be awarded the degrees of Doctor of Policy Studies from LU and PhD of Education Policy/Administration from NCCU.
To celebrate this significant milestone in the regional postgraduate education landscape, the two universities held a grand signing ceremony on 23 April, accompanying the Symposium on Internationalization and Quality Management in Higher Education 2020 supported by Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership and the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities. The event was broadcasted live online and attracted over 200 participating viewers and students, connecting educators and the world during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In his welcoming remark, Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President of LU and the Dean of School of Graduate Studies, shared the exciting news that LU has come in second place worldwide, and first in Asia, for “Quality Education” in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2020, which affirms LU’s commitment to high-quality liberal arts education, impactful research and knowledge transfer activities. Prof Chao-Yu Guo and Prof Yung-Chi Hou, the Dean and Associate Dean of College of Education of NCCU, respectively, also expressed their welcome to the speakers and the audience, and gave their best wishes to the success of the Symposium. This was followed by an opening remark by Prof Shalendra Sharma, Associate Vice President of LU, in which he shared with the audience how LU maintains and enhances its quality assurance and internationalisation under the core educational value of Caring for Learning.
The Symposium gathered distinguished scholars from the UK, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong to discuss the internationalisation and quality assurance in higher education, as well as trending topics related to enhancement practices in higher education, international student mobility and employment, and comparative and international education. Despite the fact that the panels were conducted through an online video conferencing platform, speakers and audience members were fully engaged and exchanged fruitful insights.
The Symposium also served as a good learning experience for postgraduate students from both LU and NCCU, by virtue of its high quality presentations and discussions.
